Natural pain and inflammation Relief

Many people suffer from pain after surgery, its quite normal. Don’t worry. Just because you have pain that doesn’t mean that something is wrong. Prior to surgery you likely had a certain kind of pain that you were dealing with. Now that you’ve had surgery you are experiencing post-surgical pain.

The reason you have pain after surgery is because the surgery itself is a traumatic experience to the targeted and surrounding tissues. The pain you are feeling is a normal response to this. During surgery nerves that control sensation are cut and traumatized. These types of nerves carry sensations to the brain that control our ability to feel and one of those feelings is pain. The good news is is that these nerves will grow back in time.

Like any injury or cut to the body there will be a response that causes inflammation, pain and a healing sequence is initiated. The same occurs when surgery is performed. The body starts healing itself. As healing occurs pain will be present until the inflammation stops and the traumatized tissue return to their normal state.

Inflammation and pain after surgery can be effectively managed with the following interventions:

  1. Anti-inflammatory and pain medications that are prescribed by your surgeon or physician. These will help control the intensity of your pain so you may perform your exercises with greater ease.
  2. Therapeutic exercises are prescribed to patients after having surgery to improve muscle strength, range of motion, and to promote proper healing of the structures that were operated on. These exercises are specific to the area and to the surgery that was performed. Be sure you know what the correct exercises are that you should do.
  3. Activity modification will be needed for awhile to protect the surgical site so that no damage comes to the structures involved. No lifting, pushing or pulling activities should be performed until cleared by your physician.
