Sonoran Bloom Nopalea

Protects your body from daily pollution

The Nopal cactus, more commonly known as the prickly pear cactus is valued by many simply for its beautiful bloom. Did you know that herbalists and natives to the Sonoran Desert have used this incredible plant for decades to treat a variety of conditions? There is an increasing amount of documented evidence by our modern scientists that support the health claims that have been made about this super food for generations.

Nopalea, scientifically known as (Opuntia Streptacantha) is primarily pollinated by hummingbirds. It is the hummingbird migration throughout the desert Southwest that coincides with this beautiful Sonoran Bloom.

What are some of the over 100 conditions that the Nopal cactus has been used for?

  • Inflammation
  • Diabetes
  • Hyperglycaemia
  • High blood sugar
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • High LDL Cholesterol & Triglycerides
  • Atherosclerosis
  • cardiovascular inflammation
  • Colon Cleansing
  • Gastric Ulcers
  • Gastrointestinal Disorder
  • Liver function, oxidative stress
  • Alcohol Consumption and Hangover
  • Obesity

Inflammation

Clinical studies have shown the Nopalea has a tremendous ability to reduce inflammation throughout the body. This includes cardiovascular inflammation and other such debilitating conditions as inflammatory arthritis. Consistent use of certain Nopal products have helped to reduce or eliminate inflammation in knees and other joints.

Diabetes

Nopal is beneficial in the control of diabetes. In double-blind studies, insulin levels were favourably affected with the use of Nopal, and the herb is thought to reach maximum effectiveness about three to four hours after consuming food. A recent clinical study showed that when Type II diabetic patients were given Nopal for breakfast, their blood sugar values normalized within one hour.

Obesity

Certain components of the Nopalea attach to substances in the stomach and intestines inhibiting the absorption of fats from food. Consequently, excess levels of fats and cholesterol in the blood will be lowered. Animal research has indicated that a component of the cactus positively alters hepatic (liver) cholesterol metabolism.

High blood sugar

Nopal has been clinically proven to reduce high blood sugar. The cactus contains a unique profile of high soluble and high insoluble fibers. These high levels of Nopal dietary fibers help prevent the rapid absorption of simple carbohydrates into the blood stream during the digestion of a meal. By ingesting Nopal prior to, or during a meal, one will lower the glycemic Index of that meal and allow for a more stable blood sugar metabolism throughout the day.

High LDL Cholesterol and Triglycerides

The unique polysaccharide fibers and sterols found in Nopalea reduce LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Other active phyto-nutrients in Nopal, such as carotenoids and glycoproteins, have also been shown in animal studies to increase activity in certain liver receptors that promote healthier blood lipids.

This incredible cactus from the deserts of the Southwest United States and Mexico is quickly becoming a super-star medicinal plant. Consumed by natives of this region for thousands of years, only now is it being discovered by the rest of the world.
