Resveratrol Weight Loss

Obesity is a developing worldwide problem so it will come as no surprise to read that much of the population is focused on weight loss. There are weight loss supplements, weight loss frozen meals, cookbooks for weight loss, not to mention companies like Weight Watchers and Slim Fast. It is also no surprise to anyone that the process of losing weight is not a lot of fun. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight will tell you that they are always looking for the “final solution” to their weight problem. One possible solution to aid the ever vigilant weight loss seeker is adding resveratrol to your daily diet.

Resveratrol does not appear to directly cause weight loss. However, resveratrol exhibits several properties which will aid the hopeful dieter in achieving their weight loss goal. Resveratrol is a compound found naturally in the skin of grapes, particularly in red grapes. Red wine, grape juice made with red grapes, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, Cocoa and peanuts contain resveratrol naturally. If you are trying to lose weight, you might not want the added calories from some of these foods, so resveratrol supplements could be helpful as part of your plan to lose weight.

Resveratrol found in supplements can boost your weight loss because resveratrol is an antioxidant. Some research surrounding antioxidants shows that antioxidants could play a role in helping your body’s metabolism to work more efficiently. If your metabolism is operating at optimum efficiency, you will be able to burn more calories, not only when you are exercising, but even when you are sitting still! If you combine a low calorie diet with increased exercise, and your metabolism is working more efficiently from antioxidants like resveratrol, you increase your chances that you will lose weight.

If your metabolism is working more efficiently, you will feel like you have more energy. The resveratrol could rev up your metabolism, so you will be more energized for exercising. If you can exercise more with the increased energy, you will be more successful in losing weight. Consuming higher amounts of resveratrol either naturally by eating grapes or by taking resveratrol supplements could help you feel more energetic.

Some research has shown that resveratrol can help stabilize the level of blood sugar. The level of sugar in your blood is not constant. After a meal, blood sugar levels are high. When you have not eaten for awhile, the level of sugar in your blood is lower. This lower level of blood sugar can trigger a feeling of hunger and result in eating. If your blood sugar levels can be stabilized, you will reduce those hunger pangs and eat less frequently. If you are not hungry, you will eat less, and if you are monitoring your portion sizes when you do eat, you will lose weight.

Resveratrol has characteristics which could help in weight loss. If you exercise and control the portions of food you eat in order to reduce caloric intake, resveratrol could help you control your appetite between meals by helping to stabilize blood sugar levels. You might get a boost to metabolism from the antioxidant food that contains resveratrol. You have nothing to lose by trying resveratrol except weight!
