Natural Weight Loss

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

The Principal of Natural weight loss is very simple, you only need to eat the amount you need to balance the amount of physical activity you do, if you eat more you will put on weight, if you eat less you will use weight. So why are over one third of Americans overweight.

The hard thing for people to understand is it is easier to maintain your natural weight than loose extra pounds once you have put them on. Subconsciously we all know that if we do not maintain a healthy food program for ourselves, we will start to add extra pounds.

It has been shown that even when overweight people enjoy eating low calorie foods, the majority become bored and end up putting the weight back on because they slip back into previous ways. There are many reasons why you should follow a natural weight loss regime and not become overweight, according to experts.

Most health experts contend that the significance of excess weight is more than cosmetic as it takes a huge toll on a person’s physical health. The basics of eating correctly whilst maintaining a healthy weight is not all that complicated, in fact most people know pretty well what is best and that is to control weight loss.

A reasonable approach to natural weight loss is to stick to a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates and fiber, moderate in protein, and low in fat. You have probably had a meal like this in a restaurant; a baked or jacket potato with fresh vegetables and some meat, as lean as possible but it wouldn’t have gravy or butter on the potato.

The problem is calories from dietary fat can be high and have a tendency to be retained by the body which is something that doesn’t happen when excess calories are consumed with other foods such as vegetables. Another problem is the obsession with fat free or low fat foods that food manufactures are stacking the shelves with which despite their popularity are not stopping the problem of obesity, because processed foods often contain to much salt.

There is a false perception that you can eat exactly what you want provided it is fat-free, but there are still calories in the food which can easily be converted to body fat. If you really want to lose weight then follow a weight loss program and dump the fat free products and eat small healthy snacks that are high in nutrition, such as fruits and vegetables.

Health experts say it would be better to try eating every three to four hours, when you are hungry rather than at fixed times. If you are really serious about getting rid of those unwanted pounds, you will have to consider natural weight loss as a long term proposition.

Lose Weight - Check Your Diet

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

If you are looking for a way to lose weight, I suggest that you do some research online as knowledge can give you a real advantage in your quest to lose weight. To learn more about the importance of healthy eating to lose weight, keep reading.

Look around, we just keep getting fatter, and clothing manufacturers are changing the sizes of clothing to fit the new “norms”. Less people seem concerned enough to lose weight or eating a healthy diet. The problem is obvious. It’s all about what the food industry is doing to us. They offer us processed foods loaded with fats, sugar and salt. They use chemicals to change our food. It is altered through additives such as flavours, flavour enhances, binders, colours, fillers, preservatives, stabilizers, etc. To make a long story short, we no longer eat natural and healthy food, and are becoming what we eat.

A diet exclusive of processed foods will almost certainly lead to disease such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, allergies, emphysema, stomach ulcers, premature aging, impotence, hypoglycaemia and arthritis. Research any of these conditions and you’ll find obesity is a serious risk factor in all of them. These countless diseases exist because chemically-synthesized substances disrupt the biochemistry of hundreds of billions of microscopic living cells which make up the body. A healthy diet and avoiding the processed foods being marketed to us everyday is the key to healthy living and provides a way to lose weight.

As your knowledge of healthy eating to lose weight increases, you will find yourself beginning to live a healthy lifestyle. The key lies in providing our bodies with the necessary nutrients they need to accomplish what they were designed to do - to keep us alive. Although eliminating all processed foods from our diet is probably not going to happen - we can try to eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible, remembering that eating just five portions of fruit a day can set you on track to lose weight. Healthy eating and maintaining a healthy weight is an important factor in the healthy lifestyle we are all hoping to attain.

Slowly increase the distance and the spees as you feel like it. Don’t go from a half mile to double that in a couple of days. Your body will tell you when to move up. Remember take baby steps. You can also start lifting weights a little at a time. start out with light weights and do a few repitions and then move up to more as you see fit. Warning! Exercise is addictive! Weight Loss tips

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Excess weight can expose you to many health problems, so you need to take action to help avoid those risks and prevent disease.

You need to set up some goals so as to be able to to record your progress. But what should be your long-term goal? And what short-term goals should you set to help you get there? You have a better chance of attaining your goals if you make sure that the weight loss plans that you will use are sensible and right at the beginning.

Here are some guidelines from the experts in choosing weight loss plans and goals.

1. Be realistic -

Most people’s long-term weight loss plans are more ambitious than they need to be.

For example, if you weigh 80 Kilograms and your long-term plan is to weigh 60, even if you have not weighed 60 since you were 16 and now you are 45, that is not a realistic weight loss goal.

Your body mass index or BMI is a good indicator of whether or not you need to shed of kilos. The ideal BMI range, according to the national Institutes of Health, is between 19 and 24.9. If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9, you are considered overweight. Any number above 30 is in the obesity range.

From this point of view, you will need a sensible weight loss plan that will correspond to the required BMI based on your height, because this is the primary factor that will affect your BMI.

2. Set appropriate objectives -

Using a weight loss plan just for vanity’s sake is psychologically less helpful than losing weight to improve health.

You have made a big step forward if you decide to undergo a weight loss plan that includes exercise and eating right so that you will feel better and have more energy to do something positive in your life.

3. Focus on doing, not losing -

Rather than saying that you are going to lose a kilogram this week, say how much you are going to exercise this week. Its; an easier goal to achieve but will also bring weight loss results.

Keep in mind that your weight within a span of a week is not completely in your control, but your behaviour is.

4. Build bit by bit -

Short-term weight loss plans should not be “pie-in-the-sky.” This means that when you have never exercised at all, your best weight loss plan for this week should be based on finding three different one mile routes that you can walk next week.

5. Keep up the self-encouragement -

An all-or-nothing attitude only sets you up to fail. Learn to evaluate your efforts fairly and objectively. If you fall short of some goals, just look ahead to next week. You do not need to have a perfect record.

After all, self-encouragement should definitely be a part of your weight loss plans. Otherwise, you will just fail in the end.

6. Use measurable measures -

Saying that you are going to be more positive this week or that you are going to really get serious this week is not a goal that you can measure and should not be a part of your weight loss plan.

This is another reason why you should incorporate exercise on your weight loss plan and focus on it. You should be able to count up the minutes of exercise in order to be successful in your plan.

The bottom line is, your weight loss plan on its own will only remain as it is, just a plan. You have to put it into action by incorporating goals that will motivate you to succeed.

Lose Weight drink more water

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

It is said that you should drink 8 glasses of water a day. Can that be right? Wow, that’s a lot of water, isn’t it? And can drinking water really help you to lose weight? Well there’s good news and bad news. The good news is yes, you can lose weight by increasing the amount of water you take in. The bad news? Eight glasses may not actually be enough.

So how much should you drink? Half your weight in ounces. If you weigh 150 pounds you should optimally be drinking 75 ounces of water a day. And that is just if you are relatively sedentary. If you are doing a lot of exercise, you’ll need to increase that amount. I recently watched an adventure racing in France and one team each drank 3 litres an hour which is nearly a gallon! But they were racing hard on a hot summer day.

Once you become accustomed to this amount it will be second nature. What most people don’t realize is that a large percentage of the population is walking around severely dehydrated. The reason for this is that the thirst mechanism has been ignored or misunderstood (mistaken for hunger) for so long, you can no longer notice it. So often when you are thinking you are hungry, your body is really just craving water. Once you start to take in enough water, you’ll notice your thirst mechanism will start to kick in and actually begin functioning again. You’ll feel better too, and your skin will look younger and healthier.

The added benefit is you will start to lose weight. There are a lot of calories in soda and even juice, and cutting them out can make a significant difference. Add just a bit of exercise, maybe a daily walk, and you have a recipe for an easy weight loss plan.

So if you thought drinking water to lose weight was just an old wives’ tale, give it a try. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Here’s another tip! You don’t actually have to count calories to lose weight.

Weight Loss Tips

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

There are all kinds of healthy weight lose tips. All one really needs to do is just go online and do a Google search. Anytime you start a weight loss program, you are ecommended to keep a food diary of what you eat, the calories and amount ½ cup, 1 cup, etc. But also how you felt, our emotions have a lot to do with what we eat and when we eat. Weight loss is a complicated project. What we eat, when we eat, what we think and feel, our relationship with food and even where we eat.

But there is a lot of research and help available for everyone working at weight loss. As to keeping a diary which is really helpful, a study showed that the problem was most women did not keep an accurate diary, usually consuming over 1000 calories more than recorded. Who do we think we are kidding? I always think of the old saying, a moment on the lips is forever on the hips. Cheating on my food journal is only kidding me. My success depends on being honest with myself, yours does too.

One thing that helps is to have some snacks handy really helps. I keep a small box in the car with protein bars, water bottle or diet drink. That helps me to skip that stop and the big double arches or some other fast food place where a gut bomb is calling.

I like to keep a container with vegetables cut up and a nice dip for them. I have always got fresh fruit as well. But life is not all vegetables and fresh fruit. Weight loss needs some taste and nutrition. Anyone could think of a milkshake as a nice cold sweet but ice cream is the kiss of death with weight loss as ice cream packs lots of fats and calories quickly. But have you ever made one with yogurt, some 2 percent milk and fresh fruit or even sugar free chocolate. The yogurt is really good for your health as well.

Many people struggle with portion control. Most people eat off of plates that are closer to platters than plates. The bigger the plate the apt you are to over portion what you are eating. Use a small plate and when you fill it up it makes you feel like you are eating much more, the amount of foods could be the same but your emotional self will feel full with a smaller plate or small bowl. I bought a small set of dishes and bowls. They are really small but I do not feel deprived at all, I enjoy keeping my losing weight plan working.

Also serve from the stove and not from the table, It is just too easy to reach for that second or third helping when it is sitting right in front of you. By the way, when you do have seconds try to make it vegetables and not starches you reach for. Make meat a part of a side dish, not the main part of the meal. These tips will help with your success with weight loss. Remember, some common sense and it is all about balance in ones life. It will take time to get back in shape in you have not been active for a few years.
