Weight Loss Solutions

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

There has been a tendency for people wishing to lose weight to look for radical weight loss solutions rather than a longer term healthy lifestyle change.Rapid weight loss program can be dangerous and often the weight loss is only short term. If you are looking to lose weight you are better advised to look for a long term solution.

Rapid weight loss involves losing weight in a short period of time, and there are many solutions which claim to have good results in a matter of days or weeks.

Rapid weight loss solutions such as fasting and only drinking water can be used by people who want to lose weight for a special occasion such as holidays, weddings, job interview, but the best solution is a long term commitment to a healthy lifestyle change.

Rapid weight loss through dieting has many dangers. For example, most people decide not to eat at all or eat much lesser than they should while trying to achieve the goal. If one goes without food even for a short period of time, it can be dangerous to one’s health. Fasting eventually deprives an individual of the vital nutrients necessary and causes slowdown of the metabolism. Even if some fat is burned and weight is lost in the process, it comes back after the normal eating is resumed. This results in persons weighing more than they initially did before the commencement of the weight loss program.

This leads to people attempting to lose weight again by repeating the same dieting plan or a different dieting plan, and the process is repeated all over again. This condition is called yo-yo dieting.

If this process is repeated, in extreme cases, the body begins to burn the lean muscle mass. As muscles are the one that help to burn the extra calories, it further makes the weight loss process even more difficult. People may become fatigued and tired in addition to that because of the loss of muscle mass. This affects the overall general health.

Thus, the effects of quick weight loss diets are much more detrimental to a person’s overall health, and one should be very careful before enrolling into such programs.

The best and safest way to lose weight, is first to exercise to burn of extra calories and to change your diet avoiding fast and fatty food and replace them with fruit and vegetables. this will lead towards a healthy lifestyle and result in permanent and healthy weight loss rather than going in for a quick weight loss.

Natural Weight Loss

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

The Principal of Natural weight loss is very simple, you only need to eat the amount you need to balance the amount of physical activity you do, if you eat more you will put on weight, if you eat less you will use weight. So why are over one third of Americans overweight.

The hard thing for people to understand is it is easier to maintain your natural weight than loose extra pounds once you have put them on. Subconsciously we all know that if we do not maintain a healthy food program for ourselves, we will start to add extra pounds.

It has been shown that even when overweight people enjoy eating low calorie foods, the majority become bored and end up putting the weight back on because they slip back into previous ways. There are many reasons why you should follow a natural weight loss regime and not become overweight, according to experts.

Most health experts contend that the significance of excess weight is more than cosmetic as it takes a huge toll on a person’s physical health. The basics of eating correctly whilst maintaining a healthy weight is not all that complicated, in fact most people know pretty well what is best and that is to control weight loss.

A reasonable approach to natural weight loss is to stick to a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates and fiber, moderate in protein, and low in fat. You have probably had a meal like this in a restaurant; a baked or jacket potato with fresh vegetables and some meat, as lean as possible but it wouldn’t have gravy or butter on the potato.

The problem is calories from dietary fat can be high and have a tendency to be retained by the body which is something that doesn’t happen when excess calories are consumed with other foods such as vegetables. Another problem is the obsession with fat free or low fat foods that food manufactures are stacking the shelves with which despite their popularity are not stopping the problem of obesity, because processed foods often contain to much salt.

There is a false perception that you can eat exactly what you want provided it is fat-free, but there are still calories in the food which can easily be converted to body fat. If you really want to lose weight then follow a weight loss program and dump the fat free products and eat small healthy snacks that are high in nutrition, such as fruits and vegetables.

Health experts say it would be better to try eating every three to four hours, when you are hungry rather than at fixed times. If you are really serious about getting rid of those unwanted pounds, you will have to consider natural weight loss as a long term proposition.

Eat More To Lose Weight

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Eat more and lose weight, many people will raise their eyebrows at that statement, however if you can drop the habit of eating fast food such as Burgers and fries and instead start to eat more fruit and vegetables your diet will be more healthy.

Regular exercise every day will also help you lose weight as its burns up calories. If you can try to exercise for 20 to 30 minutes at moderate intensity to get your heart working faster. Start of gradually. One alterative is combine you exercise time with going to work by walking part way to work or using stairs instead of lifts and escalators.

Reward yourself from time to time with some forbidden food such as a donut. If you have a craving for snacks rather than eating biscuits eat a stick of celery or carrots to tide you over until meal times. It is better to eat when you are hungry than eating just because its a meal time. In fact regular eating every few hours will keep you body in a higher- metabolism digesting mode burning up calories faster nad helping you lose weight.

Salads and vegetables generally have a high water and fiber content so you can quite happily eat a large bowl without taking in many calories, if you need a dressing on your salad use a no calorie dressing.

Get used to drinking a lot of water rather than cans of of soft drinks, also make yourself fresh orange juice rather than a processed bottle or carton which may contain extra sugar and preservatives which will not help you lose weight.

Avoid calorie dense, unhealthy food. Unhealthy food is food which contains calories, but little nutritional value. These calories are called “empty calories.” You will probably be best served if you also avoid foods that would contain empty calories if they were not fortified with vitamin C (like some gummy bears) or calcium (like some cookies). Fortification with vitamins doesn’t’t always make unhealthy food healthy.

Opt for chicken or fish instead of red meat, and baked potato or rice instead of fries. Choose foods that are steamed, grilled, broiled or baked instead of fried. Avoid dishes that are labeled as “breaded”, “crispy” or “battered” – those are the code words for “fried”.

Ask for dressings and sauces on the side. Even a green salad can pack as many calories as a burger if it’s swimming in a fatty dressing.Pack away extra food. At the beginning of the meal, ask for a doggie bag, and put what you aren’t going to eat in the bag. If the restaurant is known for especially large portion sizes, you can share a portion with a friend.

Add good fats to your diet. Monounsaturated fats have been clinically proven to help you burn fat, especially in your midsection. So, add foods like avocados, kalamata olives, walnuts, and flaxseed to your diet, as these will all help you lose weight

Lose Weight - Check Your Diet

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

If you are looking for a way to lose weight, I suggest that you do some research online as knowledge can give you a real advantage in your quest to lose weight. To learn more about the importance of healthy eating to lose weight, keep reading.

Look around, we just keep getting fatter, and clothing manufacturers are changing the sizes of clothing to fit the new “norms”. Less people seem concerned enough to lose weight or eating a healthy diet. The problem is obvious. It’s all about what the food industry is doing to us. They offer us processed foods loaded with fats, sugar and salt. They use chemicals to change our food. It is altered through additives such as flavours, flavour enhances, binders, colours, fillers, preservatives, stabilizers, etc. To make a long story short, we no longer eat natural and healthy food, and are becoming what we eat.

A diet exclusive of processed foods will almost certainly lead to disease such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, allergies, emphysema, stomach ulcers, premature aging, impotence, hypoglycaemia and arthritis. Research any of these conditions and you’ll find obesity is a serious risk factor in all of them. These countless diseases exist because chemically-synthesized substances disrupt the biochemistry of hundreds of billions of microscopic living cells which make up the body. A healthy diet and avoiding the processed foods being marketed to us everyday is the key to healthy living and provides a way to lose weight.

As your knowledge of healthy eating to lose weight increases, you will find yourself beginning to live a healthy lifestyle. The key lies in providing our bodies with the necessary nutrients they need to accomplish what they were designed to do - to keep us alive. Although eliminating all processed foods from our diet is probably not going to happen - we can try to eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible, remembering that eating just five portions of fruit a day can set you on track to lose weight. Healthy eating and maintaining a healthy weight is an important factor in the healthy lifestyle we are all hoping to attain.

Weight Loss tips

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Excess weight can expose you to many health problems, so you need to take action to help avoid those risks and prevent disease.

You need to set up some goals so as to be able to to record your progress. But what should be your long-term goal? And what short-term goals should you set to help you get there? You have a better chance of attaining your goals if you make sure that the weight loss plans that you will use are sensible and right at the beginning.

Here are some guidelines from the experts in choosing weight loss plans and goals.

1. Be realistic -

Most people’s long-term weight loss plans are more ambitious than they need to be.

For example, if you weigh 80 Kilograms and your long-term plan is to weigh 60, even if you have not weighed 60 since you were 16 and now you are 45, that is not a realistic weight loss goal.

Your body mass index or BMI is a good indicator of whether or not you need to shed of kilos. The ideal BMI range, according to the national Institutes of Health, is between 19 and 24.9. If your BMI is between 25 and 29.9, you are considered overweight. Any number above 30 is in the obesity range.

From this point of view, you will need a sensible weight loss plan that will correspond to the required BMI based on your height, because this is the primary factor that will affect your BMI.

2. Set appropriate objectives -

Using a weight loss plan just for vanity’s sake is psychologically less helpful than losing weight to improve health.

You have made a big step forward if you decide to undergo a weight loss plan that includes exercise and eating right so that you will feel better and have more energy to do something positive in your life.

3. Focus on doing, not losing -

Rather than saying that you are going to lose a kilogram this week, say how much you are going to exercise this week. Its; an easier goal to achieve but will also bring weight loss results.

Keep in mind that your weight within a span of a week is not completely in your control, but your behaviour is.

4. Build bit by bit -

Short-term weight loss plans should not be “pie-in-the-sky.” This means that when you have never exercised at all, your best weight loss plan for this week should be based on finding three different one mile routes that you can walk next week.

5. Keep up the self-encouragement -

An all-or-nothing attitude only sets you up to fail. Learn to evaluate your efforts fairly and objectively. If you fall short of some goals, just look ahead to next week. You do not need to have a perfect record.

After all, self-encouragement should definitely be a part of your weight loss plans. Otherwise, you will just fail in the end.

6. Use measurable measures -

Saying that you are going to be more positive this week or that you are going to really get serious this week is not a goal that you can measure and should not be a part of your weight loss plan.

This is another reason why you should incorporate exercise on your weight loss plan and focus on it. You should be able to count up the minutes of exercise in order to be successful in your plan.

The bottom line is, your weight loss plan on its own will only remain as it is, just a plan. You have to put it into action by incorporating goals that will motivate you to succeed.

Lose Weight - Eat When You Are Hungry

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Does the time you eat cause you to lose weight or gain weight

Traditionally, people tend to eat three meals a day, Starting with Breakfast when they get up. Noon, it’s time for lunch. After 6 PM. so it must be time for dinner and you should eat whether you are hungry or not. On top of this you might have coffee or tea break. The English love afternnon tea and cakes.

This is a great way to gain weight. It’s also a rather unhealthy routine to get stuck in. If this sounds like you, don’t feel bad because it’s how the majority of people handle their day-to-day eating. Why? Basically because it makes things a lot easier. If everyone else is sitting down to dinner, it’s not that easy to say well, I’m not hungry yet so I’ll eat later.

But that’s exactly what you should do! If noon arrives and your family says it’s time for lunch, by all means eat if you are truly hungry. However, if you find that you simply are not hungry, go ahead and pass on eating. Your body will tell you when you truly need food. On the other hand, if dinnertime is 2 hours away and you’re starving, don’t torture yourself. Eat something right then. Preferably a health option snack such as an orange or other fruit.

What I find is that if I listen to my body in this manner, I tend to lose weight and very easily at that. The pounds almost seem to literally melt off. I’m not a scientist so I have no idea why that is, but it does work. Even if it is midnight, if I find myself truly hungry I eat something. The key is don’t eat lots of unhealthy foods. Try to find things to eat that are healthy.

A lot of people eat because they are bored, so you always need to ask yourself why you are eating. As I said earlier if you are trying to lose weight trying eating at least five portions of fruit a day.

These are great habits to get into if you are trying to find the best ways to lose weight fast. Once you get used to following this plan you won’t even think twice about it, and as a bonus, you won’t have to go through the day feeling hungry.
